This week I participated in a 3 hour art therapy retreat. Held virtually one hour for three days.
It was a beautiful experience where we were led to reflect on our personal habits and emotional well being. Seven hundred people attended. Did you know creating art lowers cortisol (stress) levels?
Here's a short exercise for you from our Monday meeting.
Imagine you're walking on a well trodden path through a field of flowers and you reach a forest. The forest looks peaceful, so you continue on your journey. After a while, the path stops at a large rushing river, but you see the path continues on the other side. You want to continue.
Draw, say, or write how you cross the river.
Got your answer? Good. Because here comes the spoiler. How you cross the river is a representation of how you tackle obstacles in your life. The unexpected that arises and requires a new way of moving forward.
What's your reaction to obstacles?
Do you get outside help? Maybe you chopped down a tree and used that to cross.
Do you tend to rely on yourself?
This is what I drew.

I changed into a bird and flew over it.
Fiercely independent.
Willing to transform.
Open to the improbable.
